Sheol - Before Jahveh
Before Jahveh, Sheol was a realm where all but the most virtuous go where they die. In Sheol, they are freed of the burden of their sins, and eventually take on a demonic appearance. This is a realm where the extreme heat will burn off everything from the mortal realm instantly, including clothes and the mortal bodies of anyone who found another way in. However, this same heat is comfortable for the resident souls, and in fact this heat is important for keeping the souls nurtured.
At this point, there are 3 ways to exit the realm, should anyone wish to do so. The first method is the most common, and it’s through reincarnation, unfortunately, in this method, the souls end up being wiped into a tabula rasa, retaining only a vestigial memory of their past lives with them. The second method is less common, but by no means rare. They could take the direct route through the mortal between Sheol and the mortal plane as a revenant, retaining their demonic appearance and their memories. However, with this method, they will always feel cold and will seek solace in regions of high heat, like on a bonfire, or in direct sunlight. They will eventually grow weaker over time, and unless returned to Sheol on time, they will collapse and fade away forever. The third method is the final solution, should any soul feel the need to end their own existence. In this method, they go through the Ginnugagap, a gate to a realm where souls get disassembled, and recycled as fragments of new souls.
